Nails Technician

The Curriculum for students enrolled in a Nails Technician Course at the Bonnie Joseph Academy of Cosmetology and Barbering consists of 300 hours where students will learn the basics of business management, general sciences and everything they need to know about natural nail manicures and pedicures.

Students who choose the Utah Nail Technician Curriculum will learn about the artificial nail techniques used including: wraps, nail tips, gel nails, sculptured acrylic nails and nail art, along with pedicures and massaging the lower foot and leg. Here is how the courses in the Nails Technician Curriculum are divided:

Pre-Clinical 30 hrs.

Personal, client and salon safety
Aseptic techniques and sanitary procedures
Sterilization methods and procedures
Health risks to the nail technician

Business Management 20 hrs.

Regulatory agencies and tax laws
Business and salon management
Developing a clientele
Professional image
Professional ethics
Professional associations
Public relations
Advertising
Legal issues
Malpractice liability
Tax laws

General Sciences 80 hrs.

Human immune system
Diseases and disorders of the nails and skin
Bacteriology
Sanitation/Sterilization
Decontamination
Infection control
Tools and equipment for the nail technician
Analysis of the skin
Physiology of the human body; including skin and nails
Limited chemical exfoliation including pre-exfoliation consultation, post-exfoliation treatments and chemical reactions
Chemistry for the nail tech
Anatomy

Elective topics 20 hrs.

Cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
First Aid
Nutrition, exercise, reflexology, etc.

Clinical/Practical 120 hrs

Natural nail manicures and pedicures
Artificial nail techniques including: wraps, nail tips, gel nails, sculptured acrylic nails and nail art
Pedicures and massaging the lower foot and leg

Utah examination review for Estheticians 30 hr
